YourRoleModelIntroduction Arguably the most successful and respected reporter at Battlereports.com, YourRoleModel is currently seventh in the rookmark rankings with 95 (for only 20 submissions), and enjoys an astonishing 9.3626 lifetime average, good for fifth in site history. Sixteen (or eighty percent) of YourRoleModel's reports have received higher than a 9 rating; only Dagomar and ~CattleBruiser~ have more 9+ submissions. YourRoleModel has also released four perfect 10 battlereports, an astonishing accomplishment that is still unmatched in Battlereports.com history. A member of the Battlereports.com "Hall of Fame," YourRoleModel has been honoured by Blizzard for his reporting prowess and exponentially increased site traffic with his groundbreaking reports. Standout Reports Although YourRoleModel started from humble beginnings with two extremely short, relatively poorly received reports, he quickly showed his potential by his third report, a summary of a terran on terran match that remains interesting today. His first truly great report, however, was undoubtedly 1999's "World War Threeway FFA," which received a perfect 10 from the raters and accumulated 471 comments. "World War Threeway FFA - Round II" arguably improved upon its predecessor and earned another perfect 10 to go along with 407 comments. These two reports massively raised report standards and site traffic, creating a new "gold standard" that -arguably - has never quite been matched. "History: The Value of Higher Ground," an Age of Empires report released later that year, scored yet another perfect 10 and earned praise from Mark Terrano, designer of Age of Kings. The report scored 164 comments, rendering one of the most popular non-StarCraft submissions in site history. YourRoleModel's achieved his last perfect 10 for "Strifeshadow Beta Report from the trenches," one of the first reports for a game he helped design. The report's 143 comments are a testament to YourRoleModel's enduring popularity. Report Style YourRoleModel was one of the first to use Photoshop in his reports; indeed, at the time of his submissions he was lightyears ahead of any other reporter. While standards have risen since then, YourRoleModel's graphical work remains striking for its clarity and general excellence, eight years after its creation. YourRoleModel also used understated yet effective humour to keep his reports engaging, while employing rich writing with particularly striking diction to cover the most dramatic moments in the games he covered. Strictly a battlereporter, YourRoleModel never released any fiction, instead choosing to perfect his chosen craft. Few reporters have ever matched his ability to excel equally as a writer and graphical artist. |
