Dagomar

Introduction

One of the most prolific and consistantly excellent reporters in Battlereports.com history, Dagomar has released 48 reports and short stories since 2000 and maintained a lifetime average of 8.6667. With a rookmark of 170, Dagomar leads all reporters in rookmarks by a wide margin; in fact, Dagomar has released some 22 reports that received over a 9 (or brightest gold) rating, and has submitted only three reports that did not achieve at least gold status. No other battlereporter has released more battlereports that were rated a nine or higher. Dagomar's most recent effort, a joint submission with StoneColdNewbie, described a particularly intense StarCraft Free For All on Primeval Isles, and achieved a solid 10.

Standout Reports

Dagomar's most successful reports include his latest, titled by SCN as "Blunts, Booze, and BCs: An ~NH FFGAY Report (good vers.)." Standout submissions also include "Escape Velocity Nova!", "FreeSpace BR," "XENOCIDE" and the broken "A 3FFA Under a Crescent Moon." The reporter considers "FreeLancer: The Concluded Adventures of Team Rater," "Clan Frozen BR" and "A StarCraft Battlereport - 3 Way FFA" to be examples of his best work. However, as Dagomar aged he has focussed more on pure fiction; of these "Life's Music," although not his favorite piece, was the best received. Regardless, for comments and sheer controversy, nothing has yet surpassed "The 'WTF, I'm a Rater Now' BR," which received 107 responses.

Reporting Style

Since one of his majors in University was English, it is perhaps no surprise that Dagomar's reports have always been characterized by lucid, often dramatic writing displaying complicated diction and an extensive vocabulary. The reporter often transitions between a more humorous, informal style and a highly ornate description of climactic events. Dagomar's writing technique often draws upon elements found in short fiction to describe gaming experiences, a process that usually lengthens his reports. Indeed, one of the characteristics of a Dagomar submission is sheer length; no other reporter has posted so many two-part reports. Dagomar often alternates between in-depth strategic discussion, sweeping asides, occasionally bizarre humor and intense descriptions of warfare, occasionally in the same report.

For over a year, Dagomar submitted text-only reports in the tradition of Praetor, which were generally well-received. Dagomar's ratings climbed as his writing style matured and he began incorporating images into his reports. Before long, Dagomar moved past the paint application and started to employ Imagoweb, a relatively primitive image-processing program. It was only in 2004 that Dagomar deciphered the intricacies of PhotoShop; since then his images have improved dramatically, culminating in his latest StarCraft submission.

Dagomar's general style, while typically endowed with intricate writing and increasingly spectacular collages, is also characterized by a willingness to cover new gametypes. Dagomar wrote the first battlereports on Homeworld, Mechwarrior 3, FreeSpace and Freelancer, among other games.

Dagomar has also experimented with different backgrounds and incorporating his own visual art into his reports. "A StarCraft Battlereport - 3 Way FFA" is perhaps the best example of such efforts.

Personality

Dagomar is a tireless proponent of truth, justice and Your Mom jokes. Although not a serious gamer, Dagomar delights in large StarCraft FFAs and is one of the better NoHunters players in these skill-diluting matches. Although he has at times reached significant competence in 1v1 competition, Dagomar has eased away from overly serious StarCraft competition in recent years.

Status

Currently a site administrator since 2007 and a report rater since 2001, Dagomar is one of the more entrenched figures at Battlereports.com. Due to his continuing rise through the travails of Grad School, his progress on his book and the cruel demands of friends, girlfriend and family, Dagomar often lacks the time to release new reports or stories; nevertheless with the submission of StarCraft II Dagomar figures to resume his battlereporting burden. Dagomar has also been active in revising and adding to the Battlereports.com Wiki, while he continues to rate the trickle of new reports. His website, which does require some modernizing, is available at http://www.geocities.com/DagomarDeg
